Outline of ChuSanRen
Greeting

ChuSanRen (The Central Japan Industries Association) was established on April 1, 1948, as a public interest corporation under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), inheriting the aspirations of its predecessor, ShinSanRen (New Industries Association), to restore and develop the postwar economy and industry. Those were the very days that Japan strived to build a nation from the devastation of the postwar period, seeking a foundation for nation building in monozukuri (manufacturing), and also the accumulation of trial and error and challenges. During this period, Japan achieved remarkable development as a manufacturing nation. We believe in the significance of our existence and reaffirm the importance of our mission. Now, the Japanese economy is facing a period of great change. It is said to be a once-in-a-century revolution that will drastically change the way manufacturing has been done in the past, including a paradigm shift created by AI and IoT.
Just as management is said to be the ability to respond to change, if we do not respond to change, we will not be able to survive. On the other hand, there may be many managers who believe that the spirit of Japanese management and the way it has been nurtured by the Japanese people should be reevaluated in this unprecedented period of change.
In other words, we need to think again about the direction that industry should take by identifying the essential things that flow in the undercurrent that must not be changed, and the phenomenal things that change in current events that must be changed.
This period of change, on the other hand, may be an opportunity to discover new possibilities and open up prospects for tomorrow. What is essential for this is innovation and the human resources to carry it out. The innovation mentioned here is not great inventions by genius, but, for example, the creation of new added value by fusing the unique technologies fostered by each company and the traditional technologies fostered by the Japanese for centuries with unique ideas, technologies in different fields, and advanced technologies.
Innovation, regardless of the size of the company, is only possible when there are people to carry it out, and the question is how to develop these people As Japan’s population and birthrate continue to decline and the population ages rapidly, I am sure that each company is keenly aware of the difficulty of human resource development. However, I hope that you will once again reflect on the meaning of “monozukuri means human resource development” and make further efforts as a top priority issue.
In this time of great change, we are determined to contribute to the “promotion and development of industry through business assistance” and “management and technological enlightenment” by returning to the original intention of our establishment to serve industry and businesses.
What is important is that there is no template answer for how to respond to these changes, and our mission is to work with companies to think about and explore the unique challenges they face and create the best possible response.
Of course, “knowledge” and “crystallization of activities” that we have accumulated through research and development are the foundation of our federation, and we intend to contribute to management innovation and human resource development by developing highly effective management knowhow and promote highly specialized industrial human resource development. We appreciate your support and cooperation.
